Udaipur - The
Lake City
Udaipur
is most romantic city of Rajasthan often called as the City
of lakes or Venice of the east. There are some very beautiful
lakes all around the city namely Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar,
Udai Sagar and Fateh Sagar. It is considered as the last capital
of the region of Mewar Ruled by Sisodia Rajputs. Earlier,
the capital of Mewar was Chittorgarh, located on Banas River
in the north east of Udaipur. One of the legend says that
Maharana Udaisingh met a Saint while hunting in the foothills
of aravallis. The saint blessed the king and advised him to
construct a palace on the spot and said him that it will be
well protected. Mahrana Udaisingh built a residence there.
In 1568, Mughal emperor Akbar annexed Chittor, and Udai Singh
shifted his capital to site of his residence, which became
the city of Udaipur.
Udaipur is known for its palaces like one of the most beautiful
city palaces in the world – Udaipur City palace. The
white palace built on lake Pichola or Lake palace which is
presently a world famous luxurious hotel is also worth to
visit. Normally, Only Hotel Guests are allowed to enter the
Lake palace, but one can go here to have a lunch in lake palace
hotel.

- Lake Palace – It is located on a small island Jagniwas,
now one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, built
in white marble.
- Jagmandir – Another island in the lake Pichola,
which is known for its beautiful garden courtyards
- City Palace museum – It houses beautiful glass
and mirror works, Just next to Fatehprakash
- Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal
- Maharana Pratap Memorial - Rana Pratap's bronze statue
seated on his loyal horse Chetak.
- Sajjangarh or Monsoon Palace – The summer retreat
for the Maharajahs of Mewar, a place for enjoying in the
monsoon on hills. Most beautiful landscapes from the palace.
- Jagdish Temple - a Temple situated in the middle of the
city - a big Tourist attraction
- Saheliyon ki bari – A beautiful garden for the
ladies of the royal family.
