A City - Awesome and Beautiful
Bikaner
is one of the most beautiful city in the desert, founded in
1486 AD by Rao Bika ji. It is located in the north western
part of the state of Rajasthan in India. The city has magnificent
Fort – Junagarh – Only fort constructed on Land
in Rajasthan. Most of the buildings are constructed in Red
Sandstone – among these Lallgarh Palace and Laxmi Niwas
Palace are worth to be seen which are currently running as
Heritage Hotels. Bikaner is also known for its intricately
carved Jharokhas. These can be seen on the windows of forts
and havelis – traditionally used by women to watch the
world whilst people from outside could not see them. Bikaner
is also famous for its miniature paintings and gold embossing
done on ceilings, pillars, walls, marble, wooden and glass
wares and ivory. The city is also famous for its camel festival
organized each year in the month of January with camel races,
various cultural events.
Outside the Fort of Junagarh, there are some beautiful old
city markets which offer variety of things according to the
tourist taste. A little walk in the city gives the experience
of the life of people living in deserts.
The city of Bikaner is also famous for its world famous Bikaneri
Bhujiyas – A snack prepared by the floor of Moong Dal
, crispy and delicious. One of the another delight of the
city is its Bikaner Rasgulla – A sweet prepared by Milk
and sugar Syrup.

- Jain temples in the old city – There are beautiful
Jain temples in the old city with some most beautiful frescos
on the walls. It is said that a local merchant has got constructed
the temples by putting 40,000 kgs of Ghee (Butter) in the
foundation of the temple. Local priests says that one can
see the butter coming up in the months of summer.
- Deshnok – Temple of Godess Karni Mata – About
31 kms from Bikaner, world famous Karni Mata temple is located
which has thousands of rats living in the premises of temple.
These rats are considered as incarnation of the people of
Caste Charan – inhabitants of the village.
- Lallgarh palace museum
- Gajner wild life sanctuary and Gajner palace.
- Kalibanga – Remains of ancient Harappan Civilisaton.
